Asus EeePC 901 Linux comparision

E-mail Print PDF

For those who have purchased the ever popular Asus EeePC 901, or just the Eee PC in general, might not like the flavor of Linux that was installed by default when the device was purchased and might want to try another distribution, but might be worried about responsiveness.

Phoronix, has tested three other distributions of Linux, most notably, Fedora 10 Alpha, Ubuntu 8.10.4 and Mandriva 2009 beta 2 and gives us a slew of benchmarks of how each of these distributions perform through a variety of tasks.

With installing your own flavor of Linux, it might be hindering the performance of your EeePC due to the requirements that might not be met by your Eee or that you would rather trade the speed of the defualt distribution (Xandros) for one of your favorite distributions.

This article is an interesting read although, they are using beta distributions to run their tests and it might cause a discrepency with results when the final release of the distribution is available.
